On Friday, Nov 1 at 19:44, CHFD was requested along with numerous other fire departments to respond to a large wildfire between Cayuga Heights Rd and East Shore Drive. The fire was rapidly spreading and threatening a number of residences along the edge of Cayuga Heights.
CHFD Engine 203, Engine 202, Chief 261, Deputy Chief 262, and support vehicles 242 and 244 responded. CHFD crews cut protective fire lines, stretched hoses to extinguish the fire, and assisted with water supply and other essential fireground functions. Crews worked until early in the morning alongside firefighters from across the county to control the blaze.
The fire was contained and suppressed before it could destroy nearby homes or spread further up the hills into more neighborhoods thanks to the efforts of dozens of firefighters from numerous agencies. We are proud to assist our mutual aid partners.
