Structure Fire / Dryden Road

On 06/18/21 at 02:20 CHFD was dispatched mutual aid to respond to Varna for a report of a porch on fire. Ladder 231, Support 242 and Support 244 responded. On arrival, there was a heavy fire condition from the Alpha Bravo Corner. A crew from the ladder forced entry, pulled lines and hit the fire from the first floor, and the second ladder crew preformed a primary search on the second floor. Fire conditions worsened, and the second floor began to collaps, so all crews evacuated and became defensive. The elevated master stream of ladder 231 was used in combination with that of Dryden fire department Ladder 531 to knock all fire down. Fire was under control by 09:00 and overhaul began. All CHFD units were cleared by 09:30. CHFD worked with many other agencies on this call, including Varna Fire Department, Dryden Fire Department, Groton Fire Department, Etna Fire Deparment, Dryden Ambulance, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, NYS Police, Tompkins County DOER, NYS fire, and OFPC. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the NYS OFPC.
