Structure Fire / Graham Road

On 03/30/21 21:59 Cayuga Heights Fire Department was dispatched Mutual Aid to a reported structure fire in Lansing. Engine 3, Ladder 1, and Engine 2 responded fully crewed. Engine 3 arrived on scene at 10:05 to a balcony on fire with extension into the home. The fire on the balcony was knocked down, and the building was opened up to check for extension, with assistance from Lansing 1101, 1105, and CHFD Ladder 231. Engine 2, and Lansing 1141 provided additional manpower, and all fire was out by 10:25. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

We thank the other responding agencies, Bang’s ambulance, Tompkins County sheriff’s office, and NYS police, for their prompt arrival. The TC sheriff’s office was particularly instrumental in the prevention of any extension of the fire, with one of the deputies putting out a great deal of the visible fire with a can.

This was CHFD’s 2nd structure fire of the day, and 4th in 5 days. 3 of these have been in Lansing’s district, and the interoperability and teamwork between the two departments has continued to show the value of the NYS mutual aid system, and the value of automatic aid for all structure fires in each other’s district.
