Lightning strikes twice: On 05/22/2021 at 17:11 CHFD was requested mutual aid to assist Lansing FD in responding to a structure fire with flames through the roof at Lansingville Road. This is second time in two weeks that CHFD has been dispatched to a structure fire at this address. CHFD Engine 3, Truck 1, Engine 2, Command 1, and Support 2 responded.
Engine 3 arrived on scene and found fire at the rear of the property. Crews from Engine 3 and Truck 1 conducted a transitional attack, getting a knock on the fire from the exterior, before attacking the fire from the inside with a handline. The fire was under control at 18:00.
Engine 3 remained on scene to conduct overhaul. NYS OFPC arrived on scene and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. In addition to Lansing and Cayuga Heights Fire Departments, responding agencies included the Genoa Fire Department, King Ferry Fire Department, Groton Fire Department, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Bangs Ambulance, and NYS Office Of Fire Prevention and Control.
